Farzeen Shahid
PhD candidate in Mechanical Engineering
Farzeen Shahid received her Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (2011) from HITEC University, Taxila, Pakistan and Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering with specialization in Structural Design and Analysis (2016) from Institute of Space Technology (IST), Islamabad, Pakistan. She is currently pursuing her Doctorate degree in Mechanical Engineering with Tsinghua University (THU), Beijing, China.
Her research interests include the Avian Flight, Flight dynamics and Mechanical Design. Her PhD research focuses on the merging field where biologist and paleontologist work together with mechanical engineers to build biomimetic and bioinspired flying robots. The state-of-the-art research is very few regarding evolutionary flight behavior. She proposed a new model explaining the origin of avian flight named as Cursorial – Arboreal Transition theory. Her research provides the evolutionary, biophysical and mechanical viewpoints. She also developed several prototypes for her robotic mechanism.
She was designated as a Lecturer in the faculty of Mechanical Engineering with COMSATS University, Islamabad (CUI) where she has two years’ experience of teaching Mechanical Engineering courses to undergraduate students. She has (co)authored seven journal papers. She is a recipient of Chinese government scholarship for Ph.D. and IST’s scholarship for outstanding M.S. students. She was also awarded with the Best Presentation Award by Tsinghua University during the International Ph.D. Students Forum in 2019 and second class award in symposium for graduate students from Design Institute in December 2019 and the Research Productivity Award by CUI in 2015.
As Chief of Innovation and Talent Officer (CTIO), she has to superintend the internal and external aptitude and innovation acquisition strategy, which aims to create high-performance teams that help the organization cultivate. Her responsibility also includes creating new ideas but also recognizes innovative ideas engendered by other team members.
During her leisure hours, she loves to travel, do gardening, hiking and organize her living space.
