Dr. Ayeesha Mujeeb
Scientific Advisor & Shareholder of Manchester BIOGEL
Dr. Ayeesha Mujeeb is an eminent materials expert with an extensive experience of self-assembling peptide-based hydrogels with various biomedical applications.
She completed her PhD in Materials Science from the University of Manchester in 2011. Her research was focused on Self-assembled octapeptide gels as biomaterials for cartilage repair. Dr. Ayeesha researched on synthetic hydrogels for cartilage tissue engineering as a Postdoctoral Research Scientist at the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Peking University (Beijing, China) from 2013 to 2015. She worked as a Postdoctoral Scientist (April 2015 to June 2015) at the Department of Health Sciences and Technology, Cartilage Engineering and Regeneration Laboratory (CERL), Zurich, Switzerland; where she employed HA/alginate hydrogels for chondrocyte culture in 2D & 3D. Dr. Ayeesha was affiliated with the National Centre for Nanoscience and Technology at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), (Beijing, China) as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow from 2016 to 2017.
Presently, she is affiliated with Manchester BIOGEL as a Scientific Advisor and is also a shareholder at the Biotech start-up. Dr. Ayeesha has had an exciting academic career alongside her research activities. She has taught at reputable institutions including Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) (Beijing, China), the National University of Science and Technology (NUST), (Islamabad, Pakistan) and the University of Manchester (Manchester, UK).
During her time in Pakistan (2013), she was able to secure a grant from HEC, Pakistan under the Pakistan Start-up Research Grant Program (SRGP) for Assistant Professors Placed under IPFP/ TTS with a value of 500,000 PKR (US$ 4,329). Dr. Ayeesha was awarded the President’s International Fellowship (PIFI) for Highly Qualified International Scientists (China), Sino-Swiss Science and Technology Cooperation (SSSTC) Exchange Award (Switzerland) and the Beijing Government Scholarship for International Senior Research Scholars (China).
As the Chairwoman and Co-founder of WEmpower Pakistan her responsibilities include all major decsions ranging from day-to-day operations to managing the organization and its resources, serving as the main point of communication between other executives.
In her free time, Ayeesha enjoys traveling, outdoor sports, networking, and writing short stories.
